Ford shifts CNG, LPG cars to Saarlouis plant

COLOGNE * Ford Germany will begin producing compressed natural gas and liquefied petroleum gas vehicles at its plant Saarlouis, Germany, in mid-July in a bid to quadruple volume to 2,000 units a year.

Until now, Ford has used CNG Technik in Mainz, Germany, to convert cars to run on CNG and LPG. The company, which has converted about 700 C-Max, Focus and Transit models to date, will continue to handle conversions of commercial vehicles such as the Transit.

The move will reduce long delivery times for the vehicles.
